What Are Glass Splashbacks?

Glass splashbacks are made from robust, heat resistant and toughened glass.

You can fit them behind sinks, taps, cookers and blank wall space.

With hundreds of colours and designs to choose from, you can revive an old and tired-looking kitchen with a modern-looking glass splashback.

What Are the Benefits of Glass Cooker Splashbacks?

There are a number of benefits to having a glass splashback:

  1. Easy to clean.
  2. Cost-effective and cheaper than granite or marble whilst still giving it a nice polished look.
  3. Heat resistant.
  4. Some have pre-drilled holes for easy fitting.
  5. Low maintenance and durable.
  6. Hygienic.
  7. 100’s of colours and designs to fit any style and colour of kitchen.
  8. Protect your surfaces better than tiles.
  9. They reflect more light giving your kitchen a more spacious look and feel.
  10. Scratch resistant.

How Do You Install Glass Kitchen Splashbacks for Cookers?

Installing a glass kitchen splashback isn’t as hard as you may think.

Some glass splashbacks come with pre-drilled holes or sockets, which can make attaching it to a wall slightly more tricky.

Here are some things to consider when drilling and fixing your splashback to the wall.

When using a power tool to drill in the screws, you want to avoid getting too close to the glass surface with the head of the screw.

Get too close, and you could crack or chip the splashback. You also need to be wary of any pipes or electrics that might be behind the wall.

And finally, if you decide to screw your glass splashback, make sure the screw is drilled straight. Otherwise, it could add pressure to the glass splashback and cause it to crack.

But for the most part, this is a very easy job for kitchen fitters, joiners and alike.

Fitting is pretty straightforward. All you need is a tough adhesive like a low modular silicone.

Make sure you put a blob on each corner and in the middle to ensure it fits evenly.

You then want to gently push the glass splashback into place against the wall, then make sure it’s supported in place to allow the adhesive to set.

To finish off, you then want to go around the edges to seal the splash, giving it that finished and polished look.

Do You Sell Made-to-Measure Splashbacks Made of Glass?

JMT do sell made-to-measure glass splashbacks in a range of different colours and designs.

What is the Best Way to Clean Cooker Splashbacks?

The best way to clean glass splashbacks is to avoid using any heavy-duty cleaners or abrasives which can dull and mark the surface.

Instead, we recommend using some hot soapy water to get rid of any dirt and grime.

Then using a water and white vinegar mix, give the surface a wipe over and dry it off to prevent any streaks, and that’s how you can maintain that nice shiny look and feel to your splashback.

How Safe Are They?

They are safe in the sense that they are heat resistant and won’t buckle or crack when exposed to heat.

And because they’re non-porous and antibacterial, it means they’re a lot more hygienic than, say, tiles, wood or paint.

Glass splashbacks can crack under intense heat, but that’s only due to the wrong glass being fitted, so we recommend you find out if the splashback you want is made of toughened glass and not acrylic.
